If a book has fireflies, Southern relatives as crazy as a soup sandwich, Spanish moss and struggle, buildings dragged to their deaths by kudzu, dusty streets where the humidity level is thick enough to send a dog mad or red clay roads with cracks deep enough to swallow a truck, I’ll read it. If it has a narrative drawl as thick as sorghum and the buzzsaw noise of cicadas, even better. The shed on my allotment even has a porch built onto it, so deeply invested am I.
