I too check the bibliographies but had not until recently thought deeply about them in relation to provenance. I read through the bibliography checking the books of which I am familiar and then keep my eyes open for copies of those books to add to my library. I have been accused of being completist. As a researcher, I want to go to the sources. Only then can I really appreciate the palate and the ability of a cookbook author to convey their sensibility from the page to someone else's table.
