Norteña: The food of Northern Mexico
For my April column I reviewed Norteña: Authentic Family Recipes From the North of Mexico by Karla Zazueta
Usually, my monthly column is pegged to a recipe but the recent publication of Norteña: Authentic Family Recipes From the North of Mexico by Karla Zazueta demanded my full attention. It is so great to see this region represented.
You can read my review here and here’s a link to Karla’s book on Bookstore.org. I earn a small commission should you order it.
I also referenced José R Ralat’s piece about American Tacos in the LA Times.
A brief history of the burrito by Adriana Velez which also refers to Pati Jinich’s quote about burritos. She’s written about ‘Frontera Food’ here.
‘Don’t call it Tex-Mex’ is a profile of Adán Medrano in the NYT. His film examines the Indigenous food of Texas, coining a new descriptor: “ “You have Oaxacan Mexican, you have Jaliscan Mexican,” Mr. Medrano said. “Why not Texas Mexican?”
Find lots of episodes about northern Mexican regions via Pati Jinich’s Mexican Table on YouTube.
