If you ever visit Chicago, you must get a mangonada here - the place where they were born. Or so they say. I would also walk 4 miles for one. I don't think there's anything finer on a hot day.
> And here’s Jaya Saxena in Just Another Member of the Diaspora, Writing About Mangoes. ‘Kesar mango season arrived like the greatest FOMO,’ is a great line.
That is a very apt way of describing it. I get antsy when I know Alphonso and Kesar are in season and I haven't had any yet. It's much worse since we moved to Wales and it's so much harder to find good ones, and I haven't had great success with the online retailers. It's a lottery in terms of whether they will be great, ok or downright awful and the customer services of some of the key retailers leave a lot to be desired.
Love this roundup, particularly as someone with Indian origins and one who has travelled in several mango-producing countries. About the monsoon season in India, there was a writer (I can’t recall the name) who termed it as ‘rain for ripening mangos’- it’s so true!
Most excellent roundup and writing in your very expressive (mouth-watering!) piece! Loved it all and still reading some of the recommendations. Thank you for sharing this. :)

Now that's a great reason to visit!
Guess I’m going to have to get to New Orleans…!
