I didn't think your newsletter/substance promised to be food only, and this piece reflects on Hopper with the same sensibilities of your other writing. To say it's a fine fit.
I very much enjoyed this, particularly as I was unaware of Hopper's ventures into "painting from nature". And quite love thimese works. And as Whitney Moeller commented, saw connections to O'Keeffe's work (although with her I started with the nature and was drawn later to the urban architecture)
As a former Art Institute of Chicago employee I loved this piece - there’s something reminiscent of Georgia O’keefe’s work. Chef and PBS host Pati Jinich has a great series about border food on her website.
Thank you so much for sharing these gorgeous pictures. The light is so special. I only recently got to 'know' Hopper through a Sky Arts programme here in the UK.
Thank you for your kind comments. There's much to discover about his work; I still have much to experience. I hope one day to see his Saltillo paintings for real.
When did you live in Saltillo? My father worked for GM and my family moved to Saltillo when he transferred there to work at the Ramos Arizpe plant. This was between 1982 and 1985. I didn't know about Hopper's connection with the city, but I love his portrayals of the city.
Beautiful piece, written with love and knowledge. Interesting, too. I didn't know Hopper had spent time in Mexico. If anyone unsubscribes after reading this they're twerps. Oops, did I say that in print? :)

i appreciate your telling me that. I was pretty nervous about putting this one out. Thank you.

Thank you, I'll check that out. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this post.
I felt that same reflection of/connection to O'Keeffe's work!
I can see it, too. Another favourite artist of mine.

My father worked for Lucas CAV. We lived at 3189 Nogal, Jardin. Where did you live?
I lived on Punta Del Este in Colonia Cumbres and went to school in the same neighborhood at Instituto Cumbres for 2 years and then a year at ITESM.

you did! I find subscribers like you to keep to a tight remit. It's not a bad thing per se but sometimes what results is writing that lacks a home
It's also good to branch out once in a while. I'm always interested in whatever you write.
I so appreciate that. Thank you lovely xxx
Marvellous as ever, thank you
Thanks Mark!
I've always enjoyed Edward Hopper but I was unaware of his Saltillo paintings and my appreciation of him has deepened.
I learned a lot reading this and now even more I need to get myself to Mexico.
I need to return. It's been too long. And thanks for reading x
I enjoyed it!
I loved this!
Thank you so much xx
